Emerging Web Trends and Technologies
Reflection
This was a very interesting and intense class, as we covered a wide range of topics in an extremely short amount of time. Mobile devices were completely new to me, as I do not own one that connects to the internet. I found it interesting that at first, even though they could essentially access a web site, that there were limitations on how the information is presented, and that at one time, to enable the phone/device to truly see the site, one needed to convert the site for smaller screen sizes. With the advent of today's smart phones/devices, one does not specifically need to create a site especially for a specific screen size – this would really prohibit web design, as there are too many screen sizes that it would be almost impossible to accommodate them all.
The three major areas (in my opinion) that we covered, HTML5, CSS3 and CMS, were areas that I feel that a web designer/developer really should to pay attention to. Knowing HTML5 and CSS3 will allow us to create more pleasing sites, as we gain more tools (when browsers support more of them) that will allow us to make our sites have the same look and appeal that magazines and other printed materials do. Combining this with CMS, we can create sites for clients that do not want to deal with the code, and only want to update things on the site, while retaining the feel and look of the site.
I will be continuing to explore HTML5, CSS3, and CMS down the road.
